Palekh school Rectangular papier-mâché and lacquer box with polychrome decoration of Tsar Saltan searching for his son and wife in the waters, the hinged lid reveals a red lacquered compartment. Signed with the artist's name and titled Height : 3.5 cm - Length : 5 cm - Width : 4 cm Note: The Tale of Tsar Saltan was written by Alexander Pushkin in 1831. Freely inspired by a traditional Russian tale, it was the source of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's fantasy opera of the same name, composed in 1899-1900 to celebrate the centenary of the poet's birth.
