Note: According to Le Petit, there were at least five editions published in 1696; one by Jean Pohier, two in Lyon by Tomas Amaulry and Cl. Bachelu, another by Simon Boé in Bordeaux and a counterfeit in Holland. The posthumous edition was compiled by Madame Ulrich, a close friend of La Fontaine, to whom we owe the introductory pieces. Several pieces appear here for the first time, including the tale Le Quiproquo and several letters.
