PILLEMENT Jean-Baptiste (1728-1808) & AVELINE François-Antoine (1718-1780), after In China The musician - The merchant Two etchings (spotting, soiling, wetness, folds, sold as is) Subject size: 43.5 x 54 cm Note: In 1767, the publisher Charles Leviez brought together the plates engraved after Pillement under the title OEuvres de Jean Pillement peintre et dessinateur célèbre, composed of two hundred pieces, part of which he engraved himself in etching: the others by Canot, Ravenet, Masson, Wallet and other engravers, whose description reads as follows: "Première partie contient cent trente sujets, figures et ornements chinois, ainsi que diverses fleurs. The remaining seventy are composed of pretty landscapes and seascapes decorated with figures and animals, the elements, the seasons, the hours of the day and other very pleasant subjects". This work mainly comprises decorative elements, natural flowers, ideal flowers and fantasy flowers in the Chinese taste, typical of silk and Indian manufactures.
