Sèvres, Louis XVIII period, 1822. Porcelain cup and saucer decorated with ornamental friezes:
On the cup, against a green background, a decoration of antique crested helmets—symbols of war and wisdom—surrounded by cornucopias and foliage, alternating with heart-shaped palmettes symbolizing renewal and immortality, surrounded by laurel wreaths and foliage; on the white background, a design of stars alternating with rosettes; and a geometric frieze in shades of orange along the lower rim. The interior of the cup is gilded.
On the saucer, in the center within a medallion on a purple background, a flying Pegasus.
Markings on the reverse of the cup and saucer:
a mark consisting of two interlaced L’s with a fleur-de-lis in the center, “Sèvres,” and “22” for the year 1822.
a “DI” mark in red for Didier, painter of ornamental designs and animals.
