A clock with a gilded case and frosted glass; the round dial, marked “Niort,” displays the hours in Roman numerals, it is surmounted by a garland of flowers and set within a pedestal supporting a portico adorned with the attributes of war; next to it stands a man-at-arms holding a rolled-up map in one hand and leaning on his saber, with cannonballs at his feet. The base, richly decorated with volutes, acanthus leaves, rosettes, palmettes, and friezes of pearls and gadroons, rests on two front legs with scrollwork and two straight rear legs. 20th-century Rocaille style (signs of wear, chipping, scuffs on the gilding; no guarantee of functionality) H: 37 cm - W: 39 cm - D: 13 cm
