A rectangular wooden travel kit; the lid reveals three trays that fan out, featuring notches for toiletries. The brass fittings, the lid adorned with a cartouche bearing the inscription “Eudelinne CapNe qR mRE lR du 16 Reg de Dragons,” and the interior hinge engraved “Biennais Md Tabletier Ebeniste Au Singe Violet Rue Honoré No. 119 in Paris” 19th century (minor wear on the wood; missing its toiletries; key missing) Height: 5.5 cm - Length: 22.5 cm - Width: 6 cm Note: Martin Guillaume Biennais was certified as a master cabinetmaker in Paris in 1788. He set up shop on Rue Saint-Honoré, under the sign of the “Singe Violet,” where he spent his entire career, benefiting from the proximity of the Tuileries Palace for his commissions. He expanded his activities to cabinetmaking and, later, during the Consulate, to goldsmithing.
