Militaria: Correspondence/Prisoners of War/WWI World War I 1 - Lot 95
Militaria: Correspondence/Prisoners of War/WWI World War I 1914–1918 - Set of 5 Original Letters - Sent from Cette (Sète, Hérault 34) - An exceptional and very cohesive collection of period documents consisting of five authentic postal envelopes sent to German prisoners of war interned in France. These original, personalized letters are addressed to the prisoners Johan Köster, Joh Kaiser, Heinrich Jägershüber, and Ernst Wagner. The series features superb postmarks and standard administrative censorship marks, including a highly sought-after original purple circular stamp: “Dépot de Cette—Opened by military authorities—Dép. 168.” One of the letters bears evidence of a historic transfer route, having initially been sent to the Croissec depot (Riom) before being redirected by hand to Cette. On the reverse, the envelopes reveal the return addresses of the families in Germany (Baden, Bavaria) along with their original closure stamps.PrisonersOfWar, CetteDepot, Sète34, HistoryOfHérault, MilitaryCensorship, GermanLetter, Feldpost1418, WWICaptivity, WarPhilately
