Hore secundum usum Romanum. Antoine Vérard, 1510. 1 volume in-12 (15 x 10 cm) bound in contemporary brown calf, publisher's mark on boards (binding heavily worn and missing). The copy consists of 6 ff. of paper covered with text at the time, 2 ff. on vellum skin also covered with text, following the figure of the anatomical man, the calendar, and the text. The April ff. is cut off at the edge of the calendar. Some period annotations in the margins. In-fine 3 ff. on vellum covered with text. Copy of 122 leaves (out of 126) illustrated with 18 large out-of-text illuminations (out of 19), 29 small illuminations and 11 pages framed with illuminated borders. Fine Parisian book of hours printed on vellum skin by Antoine Vérard (active 1485-1512), with his typographical mark on the title and illustrated with 18 large full-page engraved figures and 29 small engravings, including the anatomical man. The engravings are all enhanced in contemporary colors, reflecting a desire to get as close as possible to the aesthetics of illuminated manuscripts. The coloring is close to that of the Oeuvres rattachées of the Maître des entrées parisiennes workshop. Expert Jean-François Bétis
