Thomas de Leu engraved, in intaglio, either after contemporary painters and draftsmen such as Caron, Rabel, Demonstier, Jacob Bunel, Quesnel, Perret, or after his own drawings. His first engraving, dated 1579, is Justice. He produced around 300 portraits, including those of Catherine de Médicis and Henri III, numerous engravings on religious subjects such as Christ bénissant in 1598 and a set of 25 prints depicting the life of Saint François.
