[de LEU Thomas] - Icones Sanctarum - 1 vol. in-4° - half blue calf with corners, five-ribbed spine, gilt edges - suite of 24 numbered plates, trimmed and mounted (glued) on paper - from Elizabetha to Reynofla - six signed in the subject - ex libris label (binding: corners dulled, slight scuffing - inside: good condition) Note: Provenance Sale of the library of M.Ch. g... sale of June 7 and 12, 1920 in Bordeaux. Thomas de Leu engraved, in intaglio, either after contemporary painters and draftsmen such as Caron, Rabel, Demonstier, Jacob Bunel, Quesnel, Perret, or after his own drawings. His first engraving, dated 1579, is Justice. He produced around 300 portraits, including those of Catherine de Médicis and Henri III, numerous engravings on religious subjects such as Christ bénissant in 1598 and a set of 25 prints depicting the life of Saint François.
