Kasgai rug (warp, weft and wool pile), Southwest Iran, circa 1880-1900 375 x 187 cm The Kasgai are nomadic tribes living in the Fars region (an area stretching from the Zagros mountains to the shores of the Persian Gulf). At the market in Shiraz, they trade their carpets for the necessities of life. This carpet is embellished with polychrome geometric flowers and birds on a navy blue background. The red border with multicolored geometric decoration is framed by two counter-borders. Wear, old restorations, accidents, fraying.
