Note: Karel Dujardin tackles a variety of genres. In addition to pastoral landscapes, he also painted portraits, historical and biblical scenes, animals and bambochades. He is most famous for his portrait of Michiel de Ruyter, whom he met on several occasions, and for Les Charlatans italiens, a painting now in the Louvre, engraved by Boissieu. Dujardin himself engraved successfully, and in 1652 published a collection of landscapes comprising fifty-two plates.
