Note: The colorimeter is used to compare the color intensities of two solutions of the same nature, i.e. with the same absorption power. A solution of known concentration is placed next to a solution of unknown concentration. The two liquids are illuminated identically from below, and by varying the layer of one or the other, the aim is to obtain the same light intensity when observed through and in the direction of the illuminating source. The ratio of the thicknesses of the solutions passed through to obtain this uniformity is equal to the inverse ratio of the concentrations of the absorbing substance.
