Militaria: Interwar Period / Passport from 1930 / Central Eu - Lot 127
Militaria: Interwar Period / Passport from 1930 / Central Europe, Poland, and Hungary / Gabrielle Bouet, born in 1891 / La Roche-sur-Yon (Vendée 85) - The passport was issued by the Prefecture of La Roche-sur-Yon on July 3, 1930. Notable features and military/geopolitical notes: Page 4 contains a handwritten note of great interest to the history of the Middle East under French mandate: “A French visa is required for Syria and Lebanon.” Travel history as evidenced by visas (1930): This passport documents an extraordinary journey through Central Europe just before the rise of major totalitarian regimes:Switzerland/Austria/Kingdom of Hungary/Republic of Poland (A superb purple consular visa from the Polish Consulate General in Paris (July 1930) with its large seal featuring a crowned eagle)/Germany (Weimar Republic). This passport is a far cry from the routine travel documents of the time. The visas for 1930s Poland and Royal Hungary, along with the mention of the Levant mandates (Syria/Lebanon), make it a prime collectible.
