Militaria: WWI/World War I 1914–1918/Set of 4 American Red C - Lot 216
Militaria: WWI/World War I 1914–1918/Set of 4 American Red Cross envelopes from 1918/American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) France/Military postal history for Private Chas Hawken, Base Hospital 19 near Poitiers (Vienne 86), addressed to Miss Nellie Bodin, residing at 50 Rue de Blossac in Poitiers. This set offers remarkable philatelic and military significance due to the collection of perfectly clear and legible period postmarks: Superb circular U.S. Army military censorship stamps (Censor Stamps) in blue and purple ink marked “PASSED AS CENSOR - A.E.F.” and featuring the American eagle in the center (notably Censorship No. 757)/Date stamps from the U.S. Army Postal Service (APO)/ French civilian post office arrival stamps “POITIERS / VIENNE” dated late 1918/ Regulatory handwritten war postage exemptions: “Soldier’s Mail” and signatures of verifying officers. This is an exceptional and highly thematic collection of postal militaria (military postal history) from World War I.
