Table stereoscopic terminal in rosewood veneer in frames of nets, it rests on a base with projection. The upper part opens with two flaps, one of which uncovers a mirror, it has retractable glasses on one side and two bronze handles on the sides decorated with foliage. It bears a plaque marked H. Mackenstein Const. Bté. S.P.G.D.G 15 rue des Carmes, Paris. About 1900 (traces of humidity, scratches) Height : 49 cm 49 cm - Width : 30 cm - Depth : 29 cm Note : This is a viewer allowing to see images in relief. The important rise of amateur photography at the end of the 19th century contributed to the development of a real industry around stereoscopic cameras. The photographic plate in positive, the basic support of the viewer, is thus two slightly different flat views. The binocular telescope visible in the upper part of the terminal allows to see the image in three dimensions by the superposition of the two views. On the top of the viewer, an opening roof equipped with a mirror has for objective to make penetrate the natural light in the apparatus in order to make possible the vision of the plates. The latter are placed inside the stereoscope in a rack that can be activated by the black button located on the side of the terminal.
