SAINTES - Courbiac, Villard and Jones Manufacture of Plate out of white fine earthenware with decoration in relief of vine leaves overflowing largely of the basin on the wing, this last is decorated with a decoration of basketry. Mark on the back in hollow Middle of the XIXth century Diameter : 22,5 cm Note : Exhibition label of the Bernard d'Agesci Museum in Niort for the earthenware exhibition from October 3 to November 15, 2009 Note : The earthenware factory of Courbiac, founded in 1845, near the castle of Courbiac, on the commune of Saintes, by a merchant of the city, Emile Villard, it is directed by the Englishman Georges Holland Jones. The production of the company Villard and Jones is characterized by fine earthenware pieces. In 1856 they sold the factory to Gaston Prévost, an entrepreneur from Saint-Etienne, and Jones left the factory to finally set up his own business in Bordeaux in 1855.
