Note: The Grimani Breviary is an illuminated manuscript breviary. It was produced in Flanders between 1510 and 1520 and is currently housed at the Biblioteca Marciana in Venice. It is one of the most famous manuscripts of the Ghent-Bruges school. It is not known who commissioned the manuscript. It was acquired by Antonio Siciliano, who was the Duke of Milan's ambassador to Flanders from 1514. The style of illumination is typical of the 16th-century Ganto-Bruges school. Several hands can be distinguished. The most archaic miniatures are attributed to the painter Alexander Bening. Some miniatures, however, have been attributed to the master of James IV of Scotland, since identified as Gerard Horenbout, and others to Gérard David, including a penitent Mary Magdalene.
