A Flemish Mannerist engraving dating from the late Renaissance (circa 1585–1590), titled “Hope and Faith Drawing the Triumphal Chariot of Charity.” This is Plate 4 (as indicated by the number 4 engraved in the lower right corner) of a famous allegorical series devoted to the fulfillment of man’s professional and spiritual duties. Martin de Vos, the great Antwerp master who conceived and drew this rich allegorical composition. Adriaen Collaert, the brilliant engraver tasked with engraving the copper plate, and Philips Galle, one of the most influential art publishers and printers of the time in Antwerp, who published and distributed the series.
